Since the start of the 2003 war in Iraq, almost half a million Iraqis have sought refuge in Jordan. Many arrived with little more than what they were carrying. Jordan is a small and resource-scarce country and the influx of so many refugees has strained public services. The Community Centres Association (CAA) is a Jordanian organization that provides a range of social services to Iraqi refugees living in Jordan’s capital, Amman. Mercy Corps conducted a study with the CAA to access the most pressing needs of Iraqi families in Amman. As a result of the study, the CAA and the American Friends Service Committee together launched a food program.
