Bouar, one of the largest cities in Central African Republic, has no running water. Lack of potable water, coupled with poor sanitation and hygiene, has led to devastating health consequences, including repeated outbreaks of typhoid fever and other water-born illnesses. In addition, approximately 1,500 people have sought refuge in Bouar from banditry in the countryside, placing an added burden on a population already struggling with scarce resources.
